What's so great about Star Choice?

I'll be honest.

If you were to ask me a few years ago what the difference is between a bank and a credit union, I would probably have the same blank stare that a lot of people have who aren't familiar with credit unions. It may seem to some people that the terms "bank" and "credit unions" are interchangeable, after all they offer essentially the same products and services, but if you take a deeper look, they are very different.

Some of the main differences are the fact that credit unions are non-profit, unlike banks who unfortunately tend to view their customers or "account holders" mainly as a source of income. Banks turn their profits over to stockholders, where as credit unions, since they are non-profit, turn their profit over back to it's members by offering them higher interest rates and lower fees.  Once you become a member of a credit union, you are part owner of that organization, and the main goal of credit unions is to please it's members, not stockholders.

Aside from the black and white, one of the biggest differences is customer service and the way our members are treated. Members aren't looked at as just an account number. We are a local community credit union and we know a large percentage of our members by name and sometimes know what type of transaction they are going to do before they even say it.

Here are a few things some of our members had to say about Star Choice Credit Union and it's employee's:

"Someone is always there to help and they are always happy to do it!"

"‎Happiness. Nice interest rate. Nice customer friendly staff. New promos. Flexible fees, good for students like me."

"Just became a member today and refinanced two loans and opened a checking, savings and a business checking account. The customer service I received from Joe Wabs was top notch! Couldn't ask for any better service!"

"Besides the personal service I receive from a 'real' person, I love shred day!"

"As I have said many times, very awesome Credit Union. Get out of the big banks and fees and start doing business with a bank that doesn't try to turn a profit. Star Choice Credit Union has been great for us. "

"From the first moment I walked into the new Bloomington office, my family and I have had nothing but exceptional customer service and expertise! Being greeted by name every time we walk in to do business to the professional way in which others we have referred have been treated, we are more than pleased with Star Choice Credit Union. Joe, Ryan and the team have been great helping us achieve our financial goals. Thanks Star Choice gang!”

To sum it up...Credit Unions care about Main Street and the little guy. Banks care about Wall Street and profits. The only shareholders we have to please are our members. That's why credit unions consistently offer better rates, lower and fewer fees and great service. So, why join a bank to make a few stockholders rich when you can join a credit union and receive the profits back with better rates and fewer fees? If you have any other questions about Star Choice Credit Union or credit unions in general, contact us, we would be happy to answer your questions!
