Don't Tax My CU Phone Blitz
Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 11:22AM

The Dont Tax My Credit Union Phone Blitz is this Thursday, September 26th. This one-day event will require massive participation from our credit union members!

As many of you know, the big banks and some in Congress want to raise taxes and impose new fees on 96 million credit union members who represent 40% of all Americans, yet represent only 6% of the assets in financial institutions. And, they want to do this despite the fact that credit unions are not-for-profit and meeting their core mission every day.

WE CANNOT LET THIS HAPPEN. That’s wrong and will imperil the credit union movement that so many have come to depend on for real financial choice. We need you to help us urge congress to #DontTaxMyCU by following these steps below:

1. Dial 1-877-642-4223

2. You will hear a short introduction on the credit union taxation issue. To bypass the intro, press 0.

3. When prompted, enter your home zip code. This will enable the system to determine your members of Congress.

4. You will be given the option of connecting to the offices of Senator Klobuchar, Senator Franken or your Representative. Once you have made your selection, you will be connected to that office.

5. Once connected, you will more than likely speak to a staff member. Remember to be respectful at all times and let them know that, should tax reform occur, you would like your elected representatives to protect the credit union tax exemption. (We have provided sample scripts that will include language to use if you are unsure of what to say.)

6. Be sure to thank the staff person for their time and hang up.

7. We strongly encourage everyone to call the 877 number again to speak with both Senators and their Congressperson. If you do choose, however, to make only one call, please make it your Representative, as we expect the House to be the first body to produce a tax reform document.

Please take a moment out of your day to help us urge congress to not tax our credit unions.
