Why do 208 million people worldwide choose credit unions? Because credit unions constantly push to be a positive influence in their local communities for the good of their members. As cooperative and democratic financial institutions, credit unions’ success depends on the success of their members and their community. Your best interest is in our best interest. This October 20, Star Choice Credit Union will join 57,000 credit unions from 103 countries and their 208 million members to celebrate International Credit Union Day.

Credit unions strive to make the world a better place for their members by offering affordable rates and high quality service that simplify their lives and empower them to meet their financial goals. In honor of this special day, Star Choice Credit Union invites its members and the entire community to join us for cookies and coffee in our lobby to honor those who have dedicated their lives to the credit union movement, recognize the hard work of those working in the credit union industry, and show members our appreciation.

Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for nearly 208 million members in 103 countries worldwide. Worldwide, 57,000 credit unions exist to serve their members, providing a safe place to save money and access affordable loans. Star Choice Credit Union began as the Minneapolis Star Employees Credit Union in 1931 and has now flourished into Star Choice Credit Union, a strong, healthy, stable financial institution that has been serving member for over 80 years!

Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. Each year, the international event affords the opportunity to remember credit unions’ proud history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union difference. This year’s theme, “Local Service. Global Good.TM,” emphasizes credit unions' positive impact in their communities and around the world.

Credit unions are recognized as a force for positive economic and social change and have provided significant value in both developed and emerging nations. International Credit Union Day is sponsored by World Council of Credit Unions, the international trade association and development agency for credit unions, as well as numerous national credit union trade associations and federations around the world.

We would like to take a moment to thank our current members for your continued business. Not a credit union member yet? Visit our website for details on membership or find a credit union you can join today at
